  9.  AB    The concomitant sexual transmission of several germs is frequent and
  10.        some STD (ulcerous forms) facilitate greatly the penetration of a
  11.        bacterium or a virus. We are interested to know the state of mixte
  12.        infections STD/HIV in our department. Two studies are analyzed. From
  13.        1981 to 1989, 199 STD were collected: urethritis (79), syphilis (67),
  14.        genital warts (43), soft chancre (10). Since November 1987, the HIV
  15.        serology has been practised, the serums are sent to Algiers. No HIV
  16.        positivity case has been detected. From August 1988 to December 1991, we
  17.        recorded 35 cases of soft chancre. This STD has recently reappeared in
  18.        Algeria. Search for antiHIV antibodies was done on 20 cases and no
  19.        seropositivity was discovered. From these two fragmentary studies, we
  20.        can conclude that the HIV infection is not spread among the the Algerian
  21.        population in our county. This data agrees with official statistics
  22.        which show that the infection is mainly exogenous. However, we should
  23.        not be too optimistic infection, should not be neglected.
