AB The concomitant sexual transmission of several germs is frequent and
some STD (ulcerous forms) facilitate greatly the penetration of a
bacterium or a virus. We are interested to know the state of mixte
infections STD/HIV in our department. Two studies are analyzed. From
1981 to 1989, 199 STD were collected: urethritis (79), syphilis (67),
genital warts (43), soft chancre (10). Since November 1987, the HIV
serology has been practised, the serums are sent to Algiers. No HIV
positivity case has been detected. From August 1988 to December 1991, we
recorded 35 cases of soft chancre. This STD has recently reappeared in
Algeria. Search for antiHIV antibodies was done on 20 cases and no
seropositivity was discovered. From these two fragmentary studies, we
can conclude that the HIV infection is not spread among the the Algerian
population in our county. This data agrees with official statistics
which show that the infection is mainly exogenous. However, we should
not be too optimistic infection, should not be neglected.
